Why is June LSAT given on a Monday afternoon?
« on: April 21, 2015, 09:49:17 AM »
Retaking the LSAT in June, and I just realized it's at 12:30 on a Monday afternoon. I suppose I can understand offering it on a Monday once per year, just in case some people have consistent conflicts on Saturdays. But why do it at 12:30 in the afternoon? I'll be a nervous wreck all morning...I'd rather start it earlier and get it over with!

I've always thought they do it because Mondays are often busier than Saturdays, so they want the extra time to get things organized in the AM, and also because morning people are penalized by the 830 starts all the time. I always tell people who aren't morning people to hit up June. But I get your thinking there--it's just longer to suffer!

Agree with Eliminator! My suspicion is that the afternoon start is done for similar reasons as the Monday administration: offer some variety to test takers who might otherwise be "penalized" by the consistency of early Saturday LSATs. I for one am super grateful for the June test, as I am not much good at 8 am on any day, much less the weekend :)

Although, this would be then one of the rare instances when LSAC did something clearly for the student's benefit, and not their own. This makes me think it's more about avoiding Sabbath test takers, and then the time gets pushed back due to administrative issues.

Thanks for the responses.

I thought about the Sabbath observers as well, but then I noticed LSAC offers a separate weekday test for the Oct, Dec, and Feb. administrations too. The alternate date for Feb. 2016 is on a Monday at 8:30am, so maybe Dr. Troy is right--maybe for June they're just being nice to the non-morning people.

Oh well. I guess I'll try to sleep in a little that day.

Those Monday Sabbath administrations are way, way smaller and easier to handle administratively. So, those 8:30 AM times in Sept/Oct/Dec/Feb don't actually indicate that LSAC is suddenly being benevolent in June.

 ;good; Probably true.

My Mondays are generally very busy too, so maybe I'll start coming into work at 12:30pm instead of 8:30am those days.   ;)

Ha! I wish I had that option! I'd take it in a minute.

Whatever the reason, many people definitely see the late start administration as a benefit. I've known a good number of students who have specifically waited for that one--even people who work early are often not at their very sharpest at 8:30 a.m...  ;hyper;

Mike: if you're looking to adjust your sleep schedule, you might consider¬† ;sleep;¬† sleeping in for the three days before that Monday, rather than the three Mondays before that day   ;)

No doubt about that. I know many students who specifically target June because they aren't morning people. Regardless of the cause, they enjoy the benefit of the late start!
