I don't know if this is something that can be done, or if there is an easy way to search, but I was wondering if maybe a sub-folder in the LSAT Discussion part of the site can be done for all the posts that have explanations for LSAT questions. I have started taking practice tests and I am trying to find the posts on here that talk about questions, but there are somany posts and the ones dealing with question answers and explanations are hard to find. I don't know if this is possible, but thought I would ask, just in case (like my mom always says, you don't get anywhere without asking! Late Mother's Day shoutout  Tongue).

Thanks!

That's a good idea. There are a couple of different ways to implement that, but one useful way might be to make a series of folders in the LSAT and Law School Resources section for each PrepTest. That might make it easier to find individual test explanations as opposed to pouring them all in one big section without separation. Let me think about it a bit and see what can be done to make it easy and efficient to use.

Thanks!

Yikes! That would be great, that is just what I wish was there. Thanks for the quick response--wow!

Not a problem. It may take a bit because putting it together is easy, but making it work over the long haul is harder. I'd love some type of automatic copy function for those types of items, but that's a tall order in terms of clean functionality.

This is a difficult thing to balance and make work in practice, in large part because it depends on users posting in the right place according to the categorization of the sub-boards.  I tried making many sub-boards, one for each PT, several years ago with this board and people didn't like it or use it.  The main reason was that it created overcategorization and it was inconvenient and time consuming to have to click back and forth in and out of so many different sub-boards to see what's there.

The thing that I found to work for this issue before was to make sure everyone uses the same cite/reference format when talking about a particular question.
Something like:  PrepTest 13, Section 3, Question 4  or PT 13, section 2, #4
Any basic variation of that, as long as it includes either PT# or test month and year, section reference (first/second LR section, LG, RC), and question #.

It's best to put that info in the thread/post subject line.  When posting a response in an existing thread you can change the subject line that your follow-up post will display.  That is useful in case the OP (original poster) didn't reference the question in the subject line.
It is also good to put the reference in the body of the post.

If everyone does this, it is very easy to find relevant posts with the search button.  With the search feature you can search either post subject or post body or both.

A number of years ago the LSD board owner decided to try out doing the same type of categorization thing for discussions about particular Law Schools.  He made a separate sub-board for each ABA approved LS and organized them alphabetically.  Results:  8 total posts in the LS specific boards in several years since they were created.

Ok, then how about just one folder (like "PrepTest Question Explanations" or something) where you can find all of them. my problem is that there are tons of posts on the LSAT Discussion part that aren't directly explaining questions, and it takes forever to go thru the whole board.

I think that if you added a search option to the site, you could dump it all in one folder. Then someone could use a few key words and likely find it.

There is a site search feature.  The button is in the top centered menu bar and is pretty good.

Not to be stuck on a point, but it would still be easier to have all the explanations in one folder IMHO. Then at least if you couldn't find it with the search button (which i had already seen), then you could go through all the pages of JUST answer explanations instead of tons of pages of explanations mixed with other stuff. Just my $0.02.

Either I've missed it too, or it's a new feature...either way, cool to see it now!

Bumping this because I just spent ten minutes using the search function trying to find a question and then another five minutes going through the threads and I'm still not sure if the explanation to my question is on here. Help!! I don't want to repost a question that someone already posted. Thanks!

What's the specific question you have?

If you can't find it, just re-post your question.  Don't worry about redundant discussions.  Since it's a discussion board where posts/threads are indexed/listed chronologically, it is inevitable that the same common questions and issues will come up again and again each cycle with each new 'batch' of students.  Over time as the volume of posts and threads builds with many of the same things discussed in multiple threads it increases the likelihood of finding relevant previous conversations about whatever you are looking for with the search feature.  When search comes up dry, just make a thread and ask so you don't waste time  Frustrated on a cyber detective investigation mission.
