I think the ploy this woman is trying is pathetic and shameful.  It wreaks of socialism values (not to  Hijacked into politics but, Hey Obama, dude, socialism has never worked in practice!  Can you knock that stuff off your agenda please?) but ironically is coming from somebody that is at the same time bragging about her self earned wealth and other accomplishments.

Hypocritical doesn't even come close to accurately describing her position.  "Wah wah, I don't want to have to take on burdens and work for the rewards I will get, I'd rather just get handouts...  I'm a really nice person and I think and care about the little guy sometimes, mostly when watching a tear jerker movie at home on my big screen TV while sitting on my fluffy couch.  I even cried a little the other night watching a DVD movie I got from NetFlix.  "

Ultimate Fail.

I have to admit I'm developing a morbid fascination with her blog. I keep checking it to see if there are any more explosive updates. Nothing yet though. I am definitely feeling sheepish at my obsessive checking of her status. I might have to cut myself off entirely in order to once again be a productive member of society. Smiley

I agree with most everything negative said here about this situation. There was also a comment made by a poster on ATL that resonated with me:

"If your law school doesn't think you are worthy of a scholarship to defray the cost of your education, why the hell should a bunch of strangers subsidize it?"

That's a great insight--the law school saw her whole application and knew her financial situation, but chose not to take further action. That speaks volumes.

You know, that's funny, because I thought the exact same thing you did when I saw that comment. If you're a student a school really, truly wants, and you demonstrate financial need, they will get you the help you need. Now, granted, some of that may be in :: GASP :: student loans, but you do what you have to do. Schools go out for applicants they want. UNC's reaction says a little more about her particular application and stats.

So I was checking for this girl's blog a few days back and saw that it was no longer available. Her twitter and facebook pages were down, too. What was up? Apparently, nothing was up. In fact, it couldn't have been more down:

Quote
Allen’s video explaining her pursuit of a debt-free life—and a debt-free legal education—is no longer on the Upromise site. Her blog, Going to Law School Debt Free, is no longer live. "I've just shut everything down," Allen tells the ABA Journal.

Allen withdrew from the contest on Monday because stories about her quest drew mean-spirited comments on several blogs. "When I read certain things, it was just so much hate, and coming from nowhere," she says. "It stunned me."

So, no more Gimme-Gimme Sarah Allen. Sadness.

Details at the ABA Journal and Above The Law:
