It seems there a few professions in which a law degree could be helpful, outside of being an attorney.
There definitely are. Just a few I can think of off the top of my head:
Professor
Administrator (typically at a law school, although not necessarily)
Legal librarian (which, surprisingly, pays very well--for some reason I wouldn't have thought so)
In-house counsel (which can be very different from being an actual litigator)
Journalist (in particular covering legal matters)
Lobbyist
And there are, of course, tons of jobs in the government sector that benefit from a law degree but don't necessarily come with the trappings traditionally considered to be part and parcel of being an attorney. There is a LOT you can do with a law degree, and much of it doesn't involve being a "lawyer" at all.
