I'm scheduled to take the LSAT October 1 - does anyone have a recommendation for a good prep course?  Also, where can I purchase practice tests that are valid?

Different courses are good for different people. Powerscore and Testmasters both have a lot of devotees.

For real practice tests, try www.lsat.com or Amazon. The books of "10 Real LSATs" are the cheapest.

One note--if you take a prep course, almost all of them give you all the tests as part of the course.

This. However, I always encourage students to check out all the major players in the LSAT prep industry, call each company, ask tough "what can you do for me?" questions, and go from there. This PDF by Accepted.com is a great starting point if you're trying to figure out where you fall in the test prep spectrum: http://www.accepted.com/law/LSATPrep.pdf

That is a good PDF! Thanks! Do you guys think it is better to take a prep course or to use books? I am thinking about using books, but don't know if it's the best way to study for the LSAT.

It depends on how you study best. Are you the kind of person that is self-motivated and can keep to a schedule you set yourself? Or do you need structure and require someone else to keep you accountable in order to really learn well? If the former, the self-study is a great choice for you. If the latter, then a classroom prep course is definitely the best bet.

Where do you think you fall?

I used a combination of both books to start off with and then a course to finish, and it worked out well for me.

I took private tutoring with two major companies. First, I had a tutor from Kaplan. He increased my score by 15 points! I went from 156 on my practice tests to 171 on the exam day! Despite such results I had a feeling I can get more. I took Princeton Review tutoring with one of their "best" and most expensive tutors. The guy knew as much as a person with 155 (MAX) would know. Spent all my money on nothing. It might be only my case but I would suggest taking Kaplan if you choose form those two.

So:

Kaplan "+"
Princeton Review "-"
Having official LSATs to practice alone "+++"

Me personal like kaplan best. Most of my friends like Powerscore, but i found they cite too many types of question for LR. Its kind of impossible for me to master and remember in real LSAT place. As I said, its too complicated. Kaplan Gives me a lot of useful tips.

I'm familiar with both courses, so I'd love to hear exactly what you one taught you that the other didn't. And, no offense, but is English your first language?

Also, if "Its kind of impossible for me to master and remember in real LSAT place" then how can will you eventually succeed on the LSAT?

How do you cite too many question types in LR? Either they are there or they aren't, right?

Pretty much. There are different ways of organizing questions, but no one way seems clearly superior to me. The only way I don't like is when they are categorized by number. I find that confusing.

I'm scheduled to take the LSAT October 1 - does anyone have a recommendation for a good prep course?  Also, where can I purchase practice tests that are valid?

I run [Deleted by Admin], and I would be happy to help you!  So far in 2011 we've worked with 122 students.  Four students did not reach their goals, and they got full refunds.  That's 96.7% successful!

I run SPAM, and I would be happy to help you!  So far in 2011 we've worked with SPAMMED 122 students.  Four students swallowed the spam, and they got asked for full refunds.  That's 96.7% successful!

Yo spammer dude  Listing, the student you responded to was looking for help back in June to prep for the October 2011 LSAT.

Reading News It's now November and the December LSAT is three weeks away.
