Hello all,

I'm sorry if I'm  Beating a Dead Horse but I couldn't find this topic covered elsewhere.  I'm planning on taking the Dec LSAT (circumstances kept me from taking the Oct) but am wondering when to submit my applications.  I've read in many places how important applying early in the admissions cycle is but I've taken the LSAT before (4 years ago, score  Curses) and am wondering should I send in my application before I get my Dec score (early Jan) or before then (mid November)?  How do I let the admissions know that I'm taking the LSAT again?  Will it look bad to apply so early without an updated score (considering nothing else has changed - GPA same, letter's of rec - 1 updated)?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My suggestion would probably be to wait, but I would really have to know more about your situation to give you a solid answer. Have you applied before? It sounds like it. If really nothing else has changed except a LOR, and your LSAT score from 4 years ago was really that bad, then you would probably be wise to wait, get a stellar LSAT score, create an outstanding PS, and then submit your app in early January. Your chances would probably be better than if you applied early with a poor LSAT score and a stale app.

You can always submit your app early and tell the schools that you are retaking the LSAT in December (you can do this a variety of ways--my suggestion would be to contact the admissions office of each school you're applying to and ask what their preferred method of notification is), but either one of two things will happen: (1) Your app will be put aside until they have an updated LSAT score from you; or (2) Your app will be evaluated with your poor prior LSAT score. Neither of these is what you're looking for.

Like I said, I would have to know more (schools you're applying to, GPA, old LSAT score, whom your LORs are from, where you went to undergrad) to give you a more qualified answer but, based on what you've said, it seems that waiting would be the best option for you.

Thank you for the reply, this was what I was thinking but it's just good to hear it from you.  I'm attending an information session next week so I guess I'll ask an admissions representative as well.

That's a fantastic idea. I always tell students that the best thing to do when they have school-specific questions is to go right to the source. Are you attending the LSAC Forum in Boston this weekend, or just a school-specific information session in your area?

I'm attending a school specific information session.  I plan on seeing if the other schools I'm considering in the area have similar information sessions.

They all should. If it's not posted on their website, just call the admissions office; a lot of them can set up visits, tours, and an opportunity to meet with an admissions rep upon request.
